Record Breaking Restoration
Made in 1891 this is one of the most desirable and rare automata of the Parisian ‘Golden Age’ ever to come to auction. Once seen the Moons expression is never forgotten.
A restoration as important as this can be very demanding, involving replacing missing components and removal of as many as 5 layers of paint yet leaving the original luminescent surface intact.
With the “Lune Fin de Siecle” The House of Automata’s restoration work in Scotland was acknowledged in the catalogue description and the automaton went on to sell last week for a triple estimate €135,263 at Breker auctions in Cologne.
This price is a record for this subject and a sign that in the opinion of the worlds most discriminating collectors, we got our painstaking restoration just right.
